Tell us more about your winning design.
The sketch for design was made some time ago, but before Loviu invited me to participate I never really had the time to make a design out of it. I made the drawing using pencil and pen and wanted to portray sadly beautiful girls profile. Later on I added vector and custom type saying "Full of Love". I sure hope the design works fine both for females and men depending on color treatment.
How did you start your career as a designer?
I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2003, but back in the studies I had NOTHING to do with computers. Would you believe that! It was after the studies I started working as an illustrator and a graphic designer in advertasing agencies. 2 years of experience made me believe I can do it on my own, and I turned freelance in 2005.
What’s the coolest stuff you’ve worked on so far?
There are quite a few projects that I found very satisgfing and made my so called career burst. I love all magazine cover works I did for Joia Magazine, TNHB or Clone. It was great doing T-shirts for Nike and wallpapers for Sony Ericsson. Finally my personal works including portreture like Vector Movie Posters or Old Time Heroes series were quite fullfilling.
Where do you get your inspiration?
A lot of places. Movies, Music, Design Books, Comics, Graphic Novels etc. and of course internet. I especially enjoy sites like Ffffound, September Industry, But Does it Float and that type of blogs. I also keep an eye on design platforms like Cargo or Behance.
Are there any designers that impacted your early design career?
Of course! There is a huge number of artist/designers out there that did and still inspire me greatly. Like for example Grand People, Non-Format, Hort from the design field. Von, Mario Hugo, Alex Trochut and StudioKxx, to name just the very few from illustrators I admire.
What are the most common challenges you face when designing?
Especially when it is a commisioned work it's all about finding the right balance between clients needs(making him happy) and solid good design, so you're not ashamed of it once the project is finished. I also try to keep my designs fresh, original and eye-catching.
What are the things that make designer successful these days?
As cliche as it may sound: hard work! But showcasing your works all over the web helps too.
What do you do when you’re not designing?
I enjoy movies greatly, so it's cinema definitely, listening to good music etc. I also like spending time with my wife Agnes, wether it's watching movies or reading and last but not least I have huge fun playing and shooting fpp games on my PS3.
What do you think of the t-shirt competition?
It is a pretty cool way to showcase ones works... That's for start. Plus you have the opportunity to see your work printed and make people who eventually buy it, happy!
Where do you see your design career in 5 years?
Who knows I may end up owning a large design/ advertising company hiring talented people. Sounds like a plan!
What’s currently rocking your ipod?
Tron Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk.
